Healthy and Patriotic Recipes For The Fourth of July

The 4th of July is upon us and almost everyone in America is busting out their grills, coolers, and picnic baskets for a festive feast. Which pretty much means, everywhere you look you’ll be engrossed by a spread of… let’s just call it what it is… JUNK!

So before you head out to the BBQ this year, pre-eat with a delicious Shakeology so you can fill up, and fuel up, on something that won’t leave you feeling guilty or gross. Or, blend one up and take it with you to the party and sip your way to satisfaction while everyone around you pigs out.

And if you’re feeling EXTRA patriotic, you could whip up a delicious and nutritious Shakeology dessert so your family and friends can treat themselves to a sweet without packing on the pounds.

STRAW-MELON-SURPRISE

Strawberry-Watermelon Surprise

  • 1 scoop Strawberry Shakeology
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup watermelon
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh mint
  • 1 cup ice

Piña Colada

  • 1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ tsp. pure coconut extract

Blueberry Basil

  • 1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 4 basil leaves

TROP-STRAW-GRANOLA-BARS

 Tropical Strawberry Shakeology Granola Bars

(Makes 12 servings, 1 bar each)

  •  4 scoops Tropical Strawberry Shakeology
  • 1½ cups oatmeal (not instant)
  • 1½ cups granola with almonds
  • 2 dashes cinnamon
  • ¼ cup dried strawberries
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup almond butter

DIRECTIONS: Mix dry ingredients first, stir in liquids, fold in almond butter. Press into an 8 x 8-inch pan and refrigerate for at least 3 hours before cutting into squares. Keep bars cold for most enjoyable experience.

Vanilla PB&B Ice Cream

(Makes 5 servings, ½ cup each)

  • 2 scoops Vanilla Shakeology
  • 1 cup nonfat milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
  • 2 frozen bananas (cut into chunks before freezing)
  • 2 Tbsp. peanut butter

DIRECTIONS:

Place milk, Shakeology, bananas, and peanut butter in a high-powered blender (such as a Vitamix); cover. Blend on low for 5 seconds; increase power to high and continue blending for 30 seconds until smooth. Pour mixture into a glass bowl; cover. Freeze for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes before serving.

Chocolate Shakeology Pie

(Makes 8 servings, 1 slice each)

  • 2 scoops Chocolate Shakeology
  • 2 Tbsp. nonfat milk
  • 1 (12-oz.) container of firm (or silken) tofu
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 1 whole wheat graham cracker piecrust

DIRECTIONS:

Place milk, tofu, Shakeology, and peanut butter into blender; cover. Blend until smooth. Pour tofu mixture into piecrust and top with blueberries. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
